Holiday-party season squeezes into a few December weeks, so the good dates go first. If you're planning this year's party now, here's a timeline that works backward from the date, for a party at the office with a private nightclub as the main event.
October: pick the date and the format
- Choose the spot: the company lot or courtyard, or an owner's home.
- If you lease, get the property manager's OK for an outdoor installation.
- Book it. Popular dates book 6 to 8 weeks ahead, which puts a December party in October.
Early November: lock the details
- Headcount: the Small holds up to 20 guests and the Large up to 50 at a time. For a bigger team, ask about combining units, or run the night in shifts by department.
- Space: a flat spot with nothing overhead, 14' x 17' or 21' x 21'.
- Power: four outlets on separate breakers, or a generator.
- Catering: outside the club. Light drinks can come inside; what's served is the company's call.
Two weeks out: tell the team
- The date, the start time and the dress code, including the shoe rule: sneakers or flats inside the club.
- Rides home for anyone drinking.
The day of
The crew arrives about three hours before the start time and sets up the club, the lighting, the A/C and the sound. Add a DJ, or run the office playlist over Bluetooth. When the party ends, everything is broken down the same day.
