Block Party Ideas for South Florida: Host It at Home
One house hosts, the whole block shows up. How to plan a neighborhood block party around a private nightclub in a driveway or yard.
A block party needs a center of gravity. Put a private nightclub in one neighbor's driveway or yard and the street has one: A/C for the adults, lights and fog for the teens, and a dance floor everyone ends up on.
One house hosts
Pick the neighbor with the flat driveway or lawn and the outlets. The club goes up there and the block comes to them:
- Large: 21' x 21', up to 50 guests at a time.
- Small: 14' x 17', up to 20 guests at a time.
At a block party, people rotate in and out all night. For a bigger crowd, ask about combining units or adding shade outside.
Power and food
The host's house supplies four outlets on separate breakers, or we bring a generator. Grills, food and the dessert table stay outside the club; light drinks can come in.
Plan the night
- Early: a kids' dance hour with the lights and the fog.
- Dinner: grills and potluck on the driveway.
- Late: the adults take over the club. Add a DJ, or build a block playlist over Bluetooth.
Tell the neighbors
Send a note a week out with the date and the start and end time. The neighbors are the guests, so make it easy for them to come.
Book it
The Small nightclub package starts at $999, and delivery is free in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. See the details for Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Pembroke Pines.
